Czech cuisine is typically central European, with German, Austrian, Polish and Hungarian influences. The standard meal, offered in just about every restaurant is 'knedlo, vepro, zelo'. It is bread dumpling, sauerkraut and roast pork. You should taste it while you are there.
There are restaurants on every corner in Prague. It is easy to find the place for lunch or dinner, even in the city center. Prices for lunch usually start at 80 Kc ($4) + 30 Kc ($1,5) for drink. There is no free water served in restaurants! Prices for dinner start at 100 Kc ($5) + 30 Kc ($1,5) for drink. Prices in pizza places start at 120 Kc ($6) for both lunch and dinner + 30 Kc ($1,5) for drink.
The World Famous Czech Beer
Czech beer has been brewed there since the 10th century. Recently the best known are Plzen (Pilsner Urquell) and Budvar (Budwaiser), but there is dozen other really good beers (Kozel, Krusovice, Radegast, Smichov ...). The American Bud has its origins in the original Budvar which has been brewed for the last 300 years in Ceske Budejovice, Southern Bohemia. Beer experts say that the original Czech Budvar is better than the American copy. Check it out yourself while you are there :-) Half litter of beer is usually for 20-40 Kc ($1-2 :-))
